Submissions to Special Rapporteur study

In May 2015 we asked our network to contribute to a study on the rights of persons with disabilities to social protection (our email). The Special Rapporteur sought input on 5 key questions.

Thank you to everyone who sent submissions. This important and influential study is a critical opportunity to ensure the perspective of people with intellectual disabilities and their families are included in the study.

Submissions

The results will be presented to the UN General Assembly in October 2015.

Social protection programmes can have significant impact in providing supports to persons with disabilities. Social protection programs can include: disability grants, social insurance, poverty reduction measures etc. However, if people with intellectual disabilities and their families are not covered under social protection programmes or the programmes aren’t understood or accessible, people with intellectual disabilities and their families could be missing out.
