Inclusion International is bringing the voice of its members to the UN in June for the upcoming Conference of States Parties.
The United Nations is hosting the 8th Conference of States Parties (COSP) at the UN Headquarters in New York June 9 – 11, 2015.
The COSP is a forum for states parties (countries who have ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)), observers and civil society organizations to discuss the successes and challenges in implementing the CRPD.
The 2015 theme is: Mainstreaming the rights of persons with disabilities in the post-2015 development agenda.
At the COSP, II will be co-sponsoring three side sessions.
- June 10, 1:15 – 2:30, in partnership with the governments of New Zealand, Austria, Italy, the UN High Commission for Human Rights and the International Disability Alliance, II is co-sponsoring a session: Overcoming barriers to live independently in the community.
- June 10, 3 – 4:30, in partnership with the government of Canada, the Canadian Association for Community Living and the Council of Canadians with Disabilities, II is co-sponsoring a session: Developing National-Level Disability Data Strategies
- June 11, 1:15 – 2:30, in partnership with UNICEF, Post-2015 agenda and Education: Securing Inclusion as the Foundation, focused on securing inclusive education in the post-2015 development agenda, in particular in the sustainable development goal on education.
Inclusion International’s delegation will be led by Klaus Lachwitz, II President. Also participating in the COSP is Diane Richler, II past-President, David Corner and Nagase Osamu, II Council members, and representatives for Asia-Pacific ; Support person Julia Hawkins and II staff Connie Laurin-Bowie,Anna MacQuarrie.
