The 2019 Disability Policy Seminar took place in Washington, DC from 8 – 10 April 2019. The annual event was hosted in partnership with our US member organisation, The Arc, along with the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD), the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD), the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD), Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE), and United Cerebral Palsy (UCP).
The annual Disability Policy Seminar brings together advocates for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with public policy experts to go in-depth on pressing policy issues during two full-day sessions in Washington, D.C.
Our President, Sue Swenson, hosted an Inclusion International Information Breakfast on the first day. During this session she provided information about our international organisation and how organisations can join as members. The breakfast facilitated national organisations to highlight their international activities and exchange potential areas for collaboration.
On the third day the Seminar concluded on Capitol Hill where attendees had the opportunity to meet with their elected officials. Approximately 700 people attended to learn, discuss, network and advocate for change.
