I am looking forward to AKIM and Inclusion International’s “Belonging” conference in Tel Aviv November 24 & 25, 2019.
Belonging. What is it? It may be hard to define, but you know it when you feel it. A sense of belonging is a human need, as much as needing food or shelter. Knowing that you are welcomed, accepted and supported are just some of things we all need in our lives. People with disabilities tell us they don’t think they are really included until they feel that all-important sense of belonging. Families tell us belonging is their ultimate goal. Belonging can be the ultimate goal of inclusion but sometimes it is the beginning of inclusion, too.
How can we work together to bring real belonging to our communities, our cultures, our nations, and our families? How can we find a path to secure not only our own belonging, but that of all people?
I have seen a preliminary list of speakers, and it is very exciting. There is still time to submit a proposal if you would like to share your experiences.
There is a good chance that this will be the conference where we find a new path together. Please join us.
