Global Disability Summit: Taking Action for Inclusion

People with intellectual disabilities and their families were central at the first ever Global Disability Summit, 24 July, 2018, hosted by the United Kingdom, Kenya and the International Disability Alliance. The Summit resulted in over 170 commitments from governments, civil society organizations and businesses on actions for inclusion. These concrete commitments provide our global network with a platform to make our Call to Action a reality.

Inclusion International had an active delegation at the first ever Global Disability Summit. Mark Mapemba, II Council member (Africa) and Mia Farah, member of Empower Us Action Team and former II Council member (MENA) were co-moderators of the event and both did an exceptional job. II’s delegation met with many governments, private sector leaders, and civil society organizations to promote our Call to Action and explore how the demands of our global network can be included in commitments being made at the Summit. Additionally, II hosted an information booth showcasing the work of our global network and profiling our Calls to Action. Our booth attracted many visitors and helped raise awareness about II and our efforts.
