IDA/IDDC side event at UN Millennium Development Goals Summit

Including people with disabilities in the UN development agenda

The International Disability Alliance and the International Disability and Development Consortium are jointly hosting with the Norwegian Government.  The event will be held at 6-8pm on Wednesday 25th September in the UN complex in New York as part of the UN Millennium Development Goals Summit.

The event  is designed to raise awareness about the need to include people with disabilities in the post-2015 development agenda with UN Ambassadors, Government Representatives and members of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals (OWG).

Following the June 2013, launch of the High Level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda’s report, A New Global Partnership: Eradicate Poverty and Transform Economies through Sustainable Development, negotiations of the the post-2015 Development Agenda are now being led by the OWG, which is made up of nation state representatives.  The work of the OWG together with the HLP recommendations and the recommendations of the UN Secretary General will form the basis of negotiations and consultations which will eventually lead to the final post-2015 framework.

Connie Laurin Bowie and Diane Richler will both be attending the event and reporting on it via our website
