Following a skills review, Inclusion International is looking for a co-opted Officer/Trustee with a background in international development, to join us on a voluntary basis.

Background to Inclusion International

Inclusion International is the international network of people with intellectual disabilities and their families advocating for the human rights of people with intellectual disabilities worldwide. For over 50 years Inclusion International has been committed to the promotion of human rights.

Our organisation now represents over 200 member federations in 115 countries throughout 5 regions: the Middle East and North Africa, Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Asia Pacific.

The Opportunity

The Officers of Inclusion International are seeking to appoint a co-opted Officer with experience in international/global development.  The below additional skills would be advantageous:

  • Desired international development expertise – contracting, monitoring & evaluation, sub-contracting, networking, opportunity generation, bid writing
  • Knowledge of foreign aid
  • Active engagement with development organisations (e.g. NGOs, Bond Network/membership, etc)
  • Finance/Treasury, or
  • Strategy development, or
  • Safeguarding, or
  • Fundraising

Ideally, you will be based in the UK, or you will have a working knowledge of UK charity rules and regulations.  You do not need prior non-exec/voluntary/board experience or to have prior knowledge or experience of intellectual disabilities, but we do ask that you have experience in international/global development.

As a key member of our Officers Board, you will support Inclusion International in developing our strategy, oversee the performance of the organisation and help to promote, advocate and develop our services to our members.

Job Specification

What’s involved?

As an International group, we meet virtually (using Zoom) up to 10 times a year for approx. 1-2 hours.  In addition to this, we try and arrange one face-to-face meeting per year (travel covered by Inclusion’s Expenses Policy).  Papers are distributed around one week in advance of meetings.  Engagement and support in-between meetings can vary.

All our Officer roles are voluntary (unpaid), but out of pocket expenses are covered (subject to our Policy).
