Inclusion International, in partnership with the Lebanese Association of Self-Advocates (LASA), hosted a workshop in Beirut on civic engagement on 18-20 November 2014. Families and Self-advocates linked limited political participation to social exclusion. Their message was clear: When we aren’t included in our communities we don’t have a voice – regardless of what the law says.
Participants talked about the barriers to civic engagement and identified strategies to enhancing the participation of people with intellectual disabilities in the civic and political life of their country.
This workshop was part of an Inclusion International project funded by the UN Democracy Fund. The results of the project and tools developed by participants will be shared at a symposium in London March 3rd.
