We invite you to join us for the launch of our new case study report: “How Self-Advocacy Groups Form and Make a Difference”. We will hold this online meeting on Zoom on Wednesday 25 February 2025 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm UK time (click here to see when it will happen in your timezone) in English and French.

This report was written by a self-advocate using easy to understand and plain language and is designed to be accessible to organisations and self-advocates.

The case studies share what we learned from our work with self-advocates in Southern Africa through our project with Inclusion Africa.

We followed the stories of groups in Zambia and Angola to see how they started and the changes they are making today.

What is this webinar about?

In this webinar, we will talk about how self-advocacy groups form in different ways. We will look at groups that start within family-led organisations, cross-disability organisation and those led by self-advocates themselves.

We will also share stories about how these groups work with their communities and governments.

Who will you hear from?

  • Mark Mapemba: A self-advocate leader who wrote the report.
  • Amos Muselema Chileshe: Leader of the Friendly Barn Development Foundation in Zambia.
  • Ruth Chihana: A self-advocate leader from Zambia who meets with government leaders to talk about rights.

What will you learn?

  • How groups in Zambia and Angola build confidence and leadership.
  • How to start a group: We will share steps and checklists for starting a successful group.
  • We will show you worksheets and guides from the report that you can use in your own work.
