Inclusion International supports our member, The Arc of the United States’ statement on the tragic plane crash in Washington, D.C., on the 30th of January, 2025.

As the international network of people with intellectual disabilities and their families, we are deeply saddened by this tragedy.

The Arc of the United States, stated:

There is no evidence that FAA hiring practices had anything to do with this accident, and suggesting otherwise is misleading & harmful.”

People with disabilities—like all federal employees—are hired because of their qualifications, skills, and ability to do a job.

We join the Arc of the United States in their concern about harmful misinformation suggesting that people with intellectual disabilities were responsible for this tragedy. People with intellectual disabilities do lots of jobs, but they do not direct air traffic.

These claims are misleading and suggest that people with intellectual disabilities do not belong in the workplace.

In moments like this, we must focus on facts and supporting those affected—not placing blame on a group that is systematically excluded from the workforce.

More inclusive workplaces benefit everyone, and help us create a more inclusive world.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families impacted by this tragedy.
