Supporting Families to Champion Inclusive Education: A New Toolkit
- Inclusive education
This International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we celebrate the theme “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.”
At Inclusion International, we believe that people with intellectual disabilities must lead the movement for inclusion—and families play a vital role in amplifying their voices.
We’re excited to launch Supporting Families to Become Conversation Leaders on Inclusive Education, a practical resource that equips families to advocate for inclusive education alongside their children.
We invite you to explore this resource and share it widely. Together, we can ensure that families and self-advocates drive the changes needed for an inclusive and sustainable future.
What is this toolkit?
The toolkit includes resources for:
- Building a shared vision for inclusive education.
- Advocating alongside self-advocates for accessible schools.
- Addressing barriers to inclusion in education systems.
- Monitoring progress to hold governments accountable.
Why is this important?
The global movement for inclusive and sustainable development cannot succeed without inclusive education. Yet, children with intellectual disabilities remain among the most excluded from school systems worldwide.
Families are at the heart of the fight for inclusion—they are often the first advocates for their children and the most consistent champions for their rights.
With this toolkit, we aim to amplify family leadership, providing our movement with the tools to advocate effectively, build partnerships, and create lasting change.
Who made this possible?
This toolkit was developed as part of the World Bank’s Inclusive Education Initiative, funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). It reflects a shared commitment to ensuring inclusive education is a reality for all children.
