Listen Include Respect is Inclusion International and Down Syndrome International’s guidelines for including persons with intellectual disabilities in the work of organisations.

What is Listen Include Respect Member Reference Group?

In June, Inclusion International and Down Syndrome International shared the Listen Include Respect guidelines on the inclusive participation of persons with intellectual disabilities in the work of organisations. The Down Syndrome International and Inclusion International networks worked together to create these guidelines.

In the next 6 months, we will be focusing our work on supporting our Inclusion International and Down Syndrome International member organisations to understand and use the guidelines.

To make sure that we are creating the tools that our members want and need, we would like to bring together a group of our members to give us advice about how to support them with Listen Include Respect.

What is the goal of the group?

The goal of the group is to give feedback about how we can make it easier for our members to use the Listen Include Respect guidelines in their work.

The group will talk about what support members need.

They will give advice about what processes, tools and resources would be most helpful to support our members to use the guidelines in their work.

They might help us to review tools that we have created for members, like training about different sections of the guidelines.

Who will be part of the group?

The group will include people from about 12 organisations from our networks.

6 will be members of Inclusion International and 6 will be members of Down Syndrome International.

We want the group to have lots of different types of organisations so we get advice that will work for all of our members. This means we will be trying to include members from every region and include a mix of members who do different types of work.

Members who are working to use Listen Include Respect already and members who are interested in using the guidelines but have not started can all be included.

The meetings will be led by self-advocate leaders from Inclusion International and Down Syndrome International with support from the rest of the team.

What is the time commitment?

We expect that the group will meet 4 times over the next 6 months.

We might also ask members of the group questions over email or ask them to give feedback about different tools.

When will the meetings be?

We will run 2 sessions for each meeting in 2 different time zones so that all parts of the world can participate. One meeting will be at 8am UK time and the other will be at 2pm UK time.

The meetings will be 1.5 hours long.

How can I join the group?

Please have one person from your organisation fill out this form to express that you would like to join the group.

We will try to include people on a first come first served basis, but we will save some space on the group to make sure that all regions and all types of organisation in our network are represented.

If you have any questions about the group or have trouble using the form, Inclusion International members can contact kimber@inclusion-international.org and DSi members can contact robin.gibson@ds-int.org for help.
