Legal Capacity and Sexual and Reproductive Health
The project is about talking to women about their right to make decisions about their sexual and reproductive health. We want to find out if this right is being respected in different countries.
We are working on this project with our partners, Women Enabled International, and our members in Spain, Kenya, and the USA.
The project also includes psychosocial disability organisations in Fiji and Uganda.
This project is funded by the Disability Rights Fund.
Goals
As part of the project:
- We will support self-advocates to learn how to lead inclusive and accessible focus groups
- Women with intellectual disabilities will share their experiences about making decisions about their sexual and reproductive health
- We will develop reccomendations about how we can make sure women all over the world can make their own decisions
These goals are important because right now, many women with intellectual disabilities are prevented from making their own choices about relationships and their bodies.
This project will help governments, civil society organisations and other key stakeholders to make sure that women with intellectual disabilities have their right to make decisions respected.
Activities
We will do activities like:
- Training organisations to run inclusive and accessible focus groups
- Supporting self-advocates from our member organisations to lead consultations in their countries
- Working with project partners to run focus groups with women with intellectual disabilities about sexual and reproductive health rights, co-led by self-advocates
- Creating a report about legal capacity and sexual and reproductive health
