Inclusive Employment: What Needs to Change
Many people with intellectual disabilities want to work, but they face barriers to getting and keeping jobs. In many countries, fewer than 1 in 10 people with intellectual disabilities have jobs.
This handout explains:
- The barriers people face at school, when looking for jobs, and at work.
- What good inclusive employment looks like.
- What employers, governments, and others can do to make work more inclusive.
Self-advocates from around the world helped create this resource to share their experiences and ideas for change.
This document was prepared for the Global Disability Summit 2025, with support from UNICEF and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
