In 2026, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) turns 20.

Inclusion International and our member in Spain, Plena Inclusion, are celebrating with self-advocates around the world through our joint self-advocacy project, Plena International.

The celebration ends with an online event on 3 December 2026, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The Toolkit

This toolkit helps self-advocacy groups plan and run a local event to celebrate the CRPD in their community.

The event does not need to be big. It could be a coffee morning, a group meeting, a short talk or an open day.

The toolkit includes:

  • Ideas for events and what to do at them
  • A suggested agenda and discussion questions
  • A planning checklist
  • Guidance on sharing photos, videos and messages from your event
  • A permission form, and poster and leaflet templates
  • Guidance on sharing photos, videos and messages from your event with Inclusion International

How to take part

  1. Hold a local event in October or November 2026.
  2. Send your photos, videos, messages and stories to Inclusion International by 30 November 2026.
  3. Join the online celebration on 3 December 2026, where messages from local events will be shared with a global audience.

Audience

This toolkit is for self-advocacy groups and the organisations that support them.

Self-advocates lead the ideas and planning for their event. Supporting organisations help with things like logistics, budget and communication.

If you have questions, contact Mark Mapemba, Self-advocate Coordinator, at mark@inclusion-international.org.

This toolkit is available in English, French, Spanish and Arabic.
