How to Take Part in Elections
Governments make decisions that affect everyone’s lives.
One way that people can take part in these decisions is by voting.
The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities says people with disabilities have the same right to vote and take part in political life as everyone else.
This guide is about your right to vote and be part of elections.
It explains how to:
- Register to vote by adding your name to the list of voters
- Learn about the candidates and choose who to vote for
- Get support to vote
- Know what to do if you are told you can’t vote
- Make a complaint if voting was not accessible
- Stand as a candidate if you want to be elected yourself
