Everyone should have the right to make their own decisions about their sexual and reproductive health – this means making choices about our bodies, relationships and having children.

‘My Body (but not) My Choice’ is a report about how women with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities around the world are being denied this right.

This report was developed as part of our Legal Capacity Project, which is about how women make choices about their sexual and reproductive health in different countries.

Inclusion International worked with Women Enabled International (WEI) and Transforming Communities for Inclusion (TCI) on this project.

In 2024, we worked with WEI, TCI and our members to run focus groups with women with disabilities about making decisions about their bodies, relationships, and marriage. These focus groups were co-led by self-advocates.

The focus groups included women with intellectual disabilities and psychological disabilities from five different countries: the USA, Kenya, Uganda, Spain, and Fiji.

The report includes experiences that women shared during the focus groups, and gives recommendations for how we can make things better.
