Help Us Make the World Congress Inclusive and Accessible!
- Inclusive participation & citizenship
Hello, my name is Tia Nelis.
And I am a consultant for Inclusion International on Listen, Include, Respect.
Part of my role is making sure that the World Congress is accessible to everyone.
The World Congress is a big conference run by Inclusion International.
We are looking for 3-4 self-advocates to be on an Accessibility Reference Group for the World Congress.
This is an important group so we can make sure everyone is included and feels welcomed.
We all know what it feels like when we go to a conference and we are not included – like if we can’t understand and read a program. We can help make sure it is a great conference where people will feel included and tell others about the wonderful time they had.
Tia Nelis, Listen Include Respect Consultant
Below are some things that we will be working on as a group:
- Think about things that make big conferences inaccessible
- Make plans for how Inclusion International’s World Congress can be accessible to everyone
- Make sure that any information about the World Congress is easy to understand
- Give advice to the other planning committees about accessibility
Self-advocates who have been to big conferences before can apply to join and be on this group that will help plan the World Congress.
Here is an application packet explaining how to apply.
If you are interested in being a part of this group, please read the application packet and apply to Tia and Kimber.
